Conference Overview

The Equality Conference aims to bring together national human rights and equality institutions, civil society organizations (CSOs), academic institutions, and other international stakeholders from across Europe to discuss how to improve access to justice for individuals and groups facing discrimination in Turkey. During the conference, the roles expected of institutions responsible for combating discrimination in Turkey, as well as the responsibilities of civil society organizations and other stakeholders, will be discussed within the framework of best practices from different countries.

The main objectives of the conference are:

To reasses the roles of national human rights and equality institutions, as well as civil society (including CSOs, academic institutions, and related organizations), in addressing cases of discrimination,

  • Promoting innovative approaches aimed at improving access to justice for victims of discrimination by sharing good practices from different countries, fostering information exchange, and encouraging mutual learning,
  • Exploring how dialogue and information sharing among key stakeholders in Europe can be used to combat discrimination and safeguard the rights of disadvantaged communities facing discrimination,
  • Developing new partnerships and collaborations in the fight against discrimination.

The key topics to be discussed at the conference are

  • The rise of discriminatory practices in Turkey,
  • The role of national equality institutions in combating discrimination,
  • Ways to fight discrimination during natural disasters and pandemics.
  • Effective methods in combating structural discrimination and racism in Europe and Turkey,
  • Discrimination in digital platforms,
  • Discrimination and hate speech during elections,
